About Sue Whitney Sue Whitney

Over 15 years years ago, Sue Whitney (then a stay-at-home mom) was looking for something meaningful to do outside of the home. With her kids in school, she wanted to pursue a career that would feed both her mind and soul. While watching her son A.J. play hockey, her passion dawned on her: JUNK! As a veteran stuff-in-the rough shopper, she realized that while others went to flea markets to find turn-key antiques, she was digging, scraping, and crawling to find the junk no one else wanted. But, then again, she didn't see junk. She saw one-of-a-kind furniture, whimsical accessories, and renewed uses for recycled nostalgia.

It all began in 2000 with a five year business plan, very little cash (try getting a bank to fund a junk business,) and a whole lot of determination. You know what they say: 'no guts, no glory!' The JUNKMARKET got underway as a retail business that sourced, transformed, and sold good junk. Sue traveled the country in search of junk to take back to the workshop in Minnesota for re-purposing. That tiny workshop became a haven for junkers far and wide who not only wanted to buy JUNKMARKET creations, but to learn how to create and style their own junk decor. JUNKMARKET's emergent appeal led Sue to her ultimate goal of sharing her stylish reuse, recycle, and re-purpose message on a national level.

The rest of the country quickly discovered and embraced her junked-up style. By the 2003 Sue had already become the nation's premiere 'junk expert' as an editor-at-large and columnist for Country Home Magazine where she shared her ideas with fans until 2008. During that time she also appeared regularly on HGTV's "Country Style." Her first book, Decorating JUNKMARKET Style: Repurposed Junk to Suit Any Decor was released in 2005 and the premier issue of JUNKMARKET's magazine hit newsstands on May 2, 2006. Her most current best sellers, Junk Beautiful: Room by Room Makeovers with JUNKMARKET Style and Junk Beautiful: Outdoor Edition were released in 2008 and 2009 consecutively. Currently Sue is Editor-in-Chief of the number one website in its genre, JUNKMARKET Style, a contributing editor for BH&Gs Country Gardens Magazine, a national consultant for vintage shows, and in the spring of 2015 launched her own show, Art & Vintage Uncorked, JUNKMARKET Style. Sue is also a nationally renowned and sought-after public speaker and has made numerous television appearances, including repeat visits to NBC's "The Today Show."

Sue is undeniably the leader in her industry. From the beginning, the JUNKMASTER had a mission: to pursue her passion and share it with others. And that's something she'll never transform.
